The Signers of the 1840 Petition

On April 1, 1840 in Cleveland, Ohio seventeen Jewish men, nearly all from Bavaria and here less than a year, signed a petition that asked City Council for a Jewish section of the city cemetery. The petition was in the archives of City Council and unknown until found on August 1, 2017. Hidden from view for 177 years, the petition has never been reported in print!

This page of names may help some of the signers' descendants learn that an ancestor supported his community this way.
