Rabbi Susan B. Stone |
When I came to
Cleveland in 1983, I was Cleveland’s first female
rabbi. My mentor and boss, Rabbi Daniel Jeremy
Silver, told me I was going to be a six-month media
sensation and then the rest was up to me. Here it
is, 25 years later. He was right, and he was wrong.
It has not all been up to me. There have been things
out of my control. But I am grateful for them all,
and I know he was completely right about the most
important thing he told me that day: A life in the
rabbinate is one worth living, with innumerable
chances for service to God and people. Image copyright Herbert Ascherman © 2008
